Issued at 10.29 am on August 12, a public warning from the Met Office said there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms with lightning likely to develop. The Met Office warned these showers can produce isolated flash floods, localised street flooding and ponding that can cause temporary traffic disruptions and landslips. Gusty winds in excess of 55km/hr may also occur and rainfall accumulations of 25mm to 50mm are expected near the heavier showers and thunderstorms. It added these winds can lead to broken tree branches, loose/unsecured items being displaced and agitated seas. The Met Office warned people to be alert to lightning and not to venture into floodwaters. They should also take the necessary precautions with sea-related activities. People are urged to monitor weather conditions and updates from official sources via www.metoffice.gov.tt and www.odpm.gov.tt.
